The Jaguars waived receiver Nate Hughes, who suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder during practice Tuesday night.
Hughes made the team last season, but was cut in September and signed to the team's practice squad. He was activated on November 17 and finished the season with five catches for 70 yards and one touchdowns.
The team also waived offensive lineman Andrew Crummey and rookie free agent safety Terrell Whitehead.
The Jaguars signed linebackers Tony Gilbert and Kris Griffin and defensive tackle Leger Douzable.
An Orange Park man has been arrested after a 36-year-old Westside Jacksonville man was attacked and dragged from a car stuck in the traffic jam near Thursday afternoon’s bank robbery suspect standoff on Butler Boulevard near Kernan Boulevard.
Police say the attack, some of it caught on a stopped motorist’s cell phone camera, was over a drug transaction gone bad.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the weekend shooting death of an Iraq war veteran in an armed standoff near Appling County’s Surrency community, Appling Sheriff Bennie DeLoach said.
Neighbors of James M. Dixon III, 31, called the Sheriff’s Office about 3:50 a.m. Sunday to say someone had fired a shot through their house, DeLoach said in a release.
Deputies went to Dixon’s house but decided for safety reasons to wait until daylight before confronting whoever fired the shot, DeLoach said.
ATLANTA - Democrats in the legislature plan to show their disagreement with an anti-abortion bill by holding a hearing today on their own “anti-vasectomy bill.”
The press release from the House Democratic Caucus said the goal is to show what they call hypocrisy of a mostly male legislature passing a law on women’s reproduction.
Tuesday’s news release announcing it included an apparent tongue-in-cheek comment.
Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown’s pick for the city’s next budget officer stayed in contention for the $125,000-a-year job Tuesday because of a last-minute deferral by a City Council panel.
Several Jacksonville students were taken to hospitals with minor injuries following a school bus accident this morning.
It happened about 7:15 a.m. at Roosevelt Boulevard and Collins Road. The Sheriff's Office initially thought there were no injuries, but eight youths later needed minor treatment, fire department spokesman Tom Francis said.
The students were on their way to Chimney Lakes Elementary School, said Duval County schools spokeswoman Jill Johnson.
Further details were not immediately available.

Jacksonville police said a 54-year-old man struck by a hit-an-run driver on Atlantic Boulevard Tuesday was a missing person who suffered from dementia and schizophrenia.
Kevin Shawn McQuaid was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. He was hit in the 7000 block of Atlantic about 6:30 a.m. after walking into the path of an eastbound car that was pulling into the center turn lane. The driver stopped briefly then drove off, police said.
A lieutenant in the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office has been suspended with pay during an internal investigation, Sheriff Tommy Seagraves said.
Johnnie Hall, who was cleared of criminal wrongdoing in a 2010 case when he allowed a deputy to swap tires from a seized truck to the deputy’s vehicle, was suspended Friday. Hall, who is the vehicle maintenance supervisor for the department, has been with the agency 28 years.
Seagraves said he could not discuss the nature of the investigation but no one else was suspended.
